Scar Tissue

Now in paperback, the New York Times bestseller by one of rock?s most provocative figures

Scar Tissue is Anthony Kiedis?s searingly honest memoir of a life spent in the fast lane. In 1983, four self-described "knuckleheads" burst out of the mosh-pitted mosaic of the neo-punk rock scene in L.A. with their own unique brand of cosmic hardcore mayhem funk. Over twenty years later, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, against all odds, have become one of the most successful bands in the world. Though the band has gone through many incarnations, Anthony Kiedis, the group?s lyricist and dynamic lead singer, has been there for the whole roller-coaster ride.

Whether he?s recollecting the influence of the beautiful, strong women who have been his muses, or retracing a journey that has included appearances as diverse as a performance before half a million people at Woodstock or an audience of one at the humble compound of the exiled Dalai Lama, Kiedis shares a compelling story about the price of success and excess. Scar Tissue is a story of dedication and debauchery, of intrigue and integrity, of recklessness and redemption -- a story that could only have come out of the world of rock.  more

RED HOT SCAR TISSUE

What better to be said about a book then i couldn't put it down. I kept reading parts outloud to my girlfriend, and all she could say was oh-my-god. And if you're kind of a fan before reading it you'll be a huge fan after. And if you grew up in L.A. it's a kick to read about the places AK lived,...

Heart in the right place, but still has a ways to go

I wasn't a big Red Hot Chili Peppers fan in their day - for one thing, I always thought of them as more a tribe of half-naked Hollywood junkies than a viable musical act, and this book seems to back up my opinion. However, this book isn't really about the RHCP but more about the life and times...

One of the best rock biographies I have ever read

Very entertaining and well written. Enjoyed the whole book. It was very hard to put down. I wasn't a real Chili Peppers fan but I am now. Several of my friends have also read it and loved it.

I don't even own a Chili Pepper CD

I had heard by word of mouth this book was good, so I finally picked it up. What a raw & I assume brutually honest version of his life and the group. I couldn't put it down over the Thanksgiving weekend. I find myself telling everyone to read it, great insight and story. I'm surprised to see...

Hard to put down

Scar Tissue immediately draws the reader in through its easy-to-read style. Some of Kiedis' stories are hard to believe, like drug use with his father at such a young age or the people he met and spent time with on intimate levels, but it's those events and people that keep the reader hooked....

If you think you've gone too far, this guy's gone further.

The thing I like about this book is the brutal honesty. Anthony Keidis is completely honest, sometimes too honest in his depiction of his life. He gives very vivid accounts of a crazy rock and roll lifestyle. It's a very interesting book that would make for an excellent movie someday. And if you...

Fantastic journey through the mind of a former drug addict!!

I have never been more intrigued by a story in my life. Anthony Kiedis continually strived to have fun in his life and never took life too seriously. He made a life derived from the use of drugs and had magnificant experiences. This book is awesome and wonderfully expresses Anthony's deepest,...

Glaring Error raises some obvious questions

I was pretty shocked that between the alleged writer, ghost writer and a major publisher that somebody didn't catch a blatant mistake that really casts some doubt as to the effort and veracity of this manuscript. Dedicated to Bill and Bob...

After listening to Stadium Arcadium and being blown away by the lyrics (e.g. Wet Sand) and stunning music (again, Wet Sand), I was very drawn to reading Scar Tissue. While not a die hard RHCP fan before the book (or before Stadium Arcadium), I am now. I dug up the old stuff and gave it a...

Anthony Kedis is you and I.

Scar Tissue is an excellent tale. More than anything the story is about a man who has done some hard yards and is witnessing without shame or pride his life story. The book is humbling in many ways. Scar Tissue is as fun to read as it tragic. His account of his day to day dealings as a...
