On Writing
"Long live the King" hailed Entertainment Weekly upon the publication of Stephen King's On Writing. Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer's craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King's advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported near-fatal accident in 1999 -- and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery. Brilliantly structured, friendly and inspiring, On Writing will empower and entertain everyone who reads it -- fans, writers, and anyone who loves a great story well told.

for those who hate to write
I recommend this book not only to those reluctant writers, but for teachers for those students. I am a teacher and i found this very inspiring. I read part of it aloud to my students and they loved it. Some are even enjoying writing more. Thank you Mr. King!

Why
If you want to be brow beaten this is the book for you. It is one thing to say you will never be a good writer in person but why take negative feed back just because of a name. It is like take a course in Spanish from a CD ROM. You never receive feedback as to why you are makeing the mistake.

Excelent, first book to read on writing
I liked this book the best for writing and what it takes to write. On Writing, does not waist time on the silly ten and fifteen minute writing exercises. On Writing tells the truth of what it realy takes to get writing done. King does not cut corners or simplify the pain of what writing can...

Offensive content overshadows and obscures useful advice
I honestly can't say if "On Writing" has any valuable advice on writing (beyond the rule below), I have stopped reading it as of page 62 (On Writing paperback), the language and some content is just too offensive. If you have any problems with movies or games that receive "R" or "M" ratings for...

On Writing
This was the 3rd Stephen King book I've read, and the first that's non-fiction. I found it to be remarkably well-written, and enjoyable. He has down-to-earth, common-sense advice that come from experience, and doesn't pull any punches. As a relatively new published author, I found the advice...

V.Tarango
The tips on writing are very practical. I enjoyed the fact that Mr.King stressed that there was no secret formula. But the most impressing thing about the book is Mr.King being open & honest about his writing stlye & more imortantly: himself. ---- V.Tarango

Great help for any type of writer or reader
Loved King's straightforward advice on writing and reading, and for living too. He has a "no bull" style that speaks to me and rings of nothing but truth. King is very generous with his advice. This book has made me a better writer, not just in business, but in all aspects of my writing. I've...

Educational, inspirational
Spurred by a comment by Roger Ebert that this book is, along with The Elements of Style, one of the best books on writing, I bought The Art of Writing. It's certainly not as technical as The Elements of Style, but there are nuggets of wisdom that I've used or referred to continually, i.e.,...

The Best Book On Writing
I have had King's "On Writing" for a number of years and I have read most of it quite a few times. Sometimes for a chuckle and sometimes if I get the dreaded writers block disease. This book is great for the writer, aspiring writer and for SK fans. Seldom does a writer of SK's stature spend...

Aspiring writer? Get this book!
I am not a Stephen King aficionada. I am too much of a scaredy-cat to read horror. But. I write and I recognize that Mr. King probably knows a thing or two about writing. So I bought this book and I am pleased with my purchase. I am also pleased with the Kindle discount. The Kindle layout was...
