Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is the best chronicle of drug-soaked, addle-brained, rollicking good times ever committed to the printed page. It is also the tale of a long weekend road trip that has gone down in the annals of American pop culture as one of the strangest journeys ever undertaken.
Now this cult classic of gonzo journalism is a major motion picture from Universal, directed by Terry Gilliam and starring Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro. Opens everywhere on May 22, 1998. more

A Wild and Extraordinary Ride Down a Lost Highway ...
The Lost Highway of the American Dream.I love social satire. I don't need my characters to be loveable; I don't even need them to be likeable. I just need them to be what they are, even if it's revolting. Now, I wasn't old enough to remember much from the late 60's early 70's let alone the...

One of a kind!
This book is labeled as journalism / nonfiction. I am not sure that I believe it is fully either, but it is none the less a very interesting read.Fear and Loathing claims to be a "savage journey to the heart of the American Dream" but I find it hard to believe it was all that honest of a search...

funny as hell
Hunter Thompson was the founder of Gonzo journalism and he will be deeply missed. Pick any one of his books and you won't be disappointed. If you have seen the movie, it is very similar. Hunter Thompson and his attorney become locked in a drug induced mania while in Vegas to cover a motorcycle...

I don't see what the big deal is...
As a recent college grad with time to kill unemployed, I wanted to like this book, I really did. Many of my friends have recommended I read it, although I am beginning to think they never read it either. I had no problem putting this book down, and was kinda relieved to get to the end of it....

From the opening passage...
From the opening passage, to the bitter end, Hunter Thompson's masterpiece, had me completely encased. This was so much like how I felt when reading Hemingway's 'A Sun Also Rises'. I was so blown away by both these books that I immediately gobbled up everything by Thompson and Hemingway I could...

I read this book at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, then I went to Vegas and saw "The Hangover". The timing couldn't have been more perfect. I bought the book after watching a documentary on Hunter Thompson. This is a MUST READ!! It will grab you from the opening paragraph and drag you along...

Saint Hunter the Divine
"Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" is the so-called Great American Novel. It was also journalism, or "Gonzo Journalism," a genre that Hunter S. Thompson practically invented, and which draws heavily from the art of fiction. HST once said: "It is a style of 'reporting' based on William Faulkner's...

A Modern Humorist With A Twist
A different take on the standard buddy travelogue by Hunter Thompson, a writer who who provides a dark humor filled romp out west. It is not for those who frown on drug culture books, or those who cannot find humor in such things due to the subject matter, much in the same way that many do not...

Hilarious, but drab; the party overstayed its welcome.
How can a book be hilarious and drab at the same time? Well, imagine this situation: you've arrived at a huge party with your friends. You're really pumped, you're telling jokes, and everyone is laughing, and your friends are enjoying your company, and everyone is having a good time. But then, a...

Great book, unfortunatell i've seen the movie
Just to be short, this book is great. Unfortunately for me, i've seen the movie for 5 or 6 times before reading it, so the book just felt repetitive. Especially since all the movie is like a quote of the book. Which is great if i wouldn't have seen the movie. So if you liked the movie, you'll...
