STELLAR PERFORMANCES BY ALL

At the time I bought this I didn't know all the artist but made a apoint to and you should to. Other reviews have been negtive but I find no merit in their words. Even if the musicians played note for note Genesis(they didn't) this CD has the benefit of better sound production than the org. Yes I...

Okay, so what's the point?

I played drums on Over The Garden Wall's version of Firth Of Fifth. I agree that there is no point in releasing a CD of cover songs that are pretty much identical to the original, but let me explain. We were a bonafide Genesis Tribute Band! We prided ourselves on our ability to entertain...

Disappointing tribute to Genesis

Most tribute albums are disappointing, and this one marches proudly right into that rank. I can understand why it would be a good musical learning experience to recreate the 9-minute-long "Firth of Fifth" note for note. What I can't understand is who thought ANYONE would want to pay for a slavish...

To Breathe New Life Into Some Great Old Tunes

Buy this disc for the late Kevin Gilbert's cover of "Back In NYC" if nothing else. (ps: how did he die?) Robert Berry is truely the MASTER of rearranging if not rewriting progressive music. He makes the tunes he re-does his own. Get the ELP tribute "Encores, Legends and Paradoxes" Robert...

Stinks

I love all the classic 70's Genesis albums. The problem with a tribute album to a progressive rock band like Genesis is that the original tracks were so detailed and complex. This leaves little room for interpretation for any musicians who would wish to put a new slant on things. The late...

A good collection.

There are a lot of "tribute" albums around but some of the best have been the Yes, Genesis and Rush tribute albums on the Magna Carta label. One of the other reviewers makes the point that a lot of the bands are relatively unknown but I think this is a plus - these people are Genesis fans and...

Disappointing

Don't spen big import bucks to get this album. With the exception of producer David Hentchel I never heard of any of the bands on this album. The one song that stands out is the opening track Watcher of the Skies. A spectacular version. Many too Many and Undertow are also listenable.

Some interesting spin on some old Genesis

Lord only knows who most of these bands are. However they do some great covers of some great Genesis music. Kevin Gilbert's version of Back in N.Y.C, Magellan's take on Mama and Pete Bardens "Mirage" version of Many too Many are excellent. Lord only knows why name bands have not done covers of...
