Someone should have told the authors to watch their language....
Tim's father said "In war the dead pay the debts of the living." This book does a wonderful job of portraying the folly of war. At the end of the book, you can understand where Tim is coming from when he says, "But somehow, even fifty years later, I keep thinking that there might have been...

My Brother Sam is Dead?
My Brother Sam Is Dead.... No not actually but hey isn't that an interesting title? I believe that in fact this is one heck of a title, this title has the reader on its toes through out the book waiting for someone's brother, Sam, to die. That though is not the only reason though for why I rated...

Great book
This is one of the only books from our home-school required reading list that my twin teen boys really latched onto and loved. They listen to it over and over again and I even bought it for my now 20-year-old son for Christmas. He was still SO excited! :) Really captures their attention and...

How War Can Change You
This is the story of sixteen-year-old Sam Meeker who knew he was right in joining the fight against the British in the Revolutionary War--in spite of his family and most of his town being against it.It is the story, too, of war and what it does to individuals and families: its bravery, cruelness,...

Very good, deep book
For one, I would like to start out that I am thirteen and my name is not "Bernease" as it may show up, but my grandmothers. Now that that's out of the way...I'm really astounded by the amount of ignorant people who are reviewing this book. This book is supposed to be an inside look of what life...

My son needed this for a school report. It is a very good book for middle school revolutionary war study. It came a day sooner than expected, I got 2 day shipping and it came in 1 business day. Extremely satisfied with condition, speed and product.

An anti-war novel about, of all wars, the American Revolution
Maybe I don't read enough Revolutionary War fiction to have the best idea of its focus, but it seems to me that a good deal of it celebrates and romanticizes the war. And why not? It was freedom from oppression. It was the birth of nation. We know about Valley Forge and all of that suffering, but...

Easy read, well written, intriguing
This is a great read for teens. I recommend for those who have not yet fallen in love with reading. Would have given 5 stars, but author fails to deal with some essential issues of that time.
