August and Everything After
It's amazing the difference a year makes. Upon its release, August and Everything After sounded remarkably fresh, a welcome change from the crunch and screech of grunge. Blending the vocal athleticism of Van Morrison with the moody rock of The Band, the Counting Crows turned on a whole legion of fans turned off by modern rock. But what sounded fresh soon became stale as dozens of bands flocked to the radio with euthanized versions of the Counting Crows' sound. But you shouldn't hold that against the Crow boys. August and Everything After is a fantastic rock album. Though "Mr. Jones" was the moneymaker, the disc features such standout cuts as the dark lilt of "Anna Begins," the morose "Rain King," and the outstanding U2-meets-Grant Lee Buffalo anthem "Murder of One." Maybe time, and another listen, will heal the damage wrought. --Tod Nelson more

- Very Good CD
This CD is a very good Counting Crows CD. I am not a major fan of the counting crows but I do like some of their music...and would recomment this CD. There is not a song on it that I do not enjoy listening to.

- A 90's Masterpiece
1994 was a great year for rock. In my opinion it was the last truly great year for rock and this CD is one of the reasons why. Alot of people dis the Counting Crows now but back in '94 this type of music was fresh and unique. They were...

- Will Make History
There is no doubt that this album will go down in history as one of the BEST albums EVER. The creative writing of the well thought lyrics string this album together like nothing I've seen since Graceland (obviously different genre)....

- (3.5 stars) Likeable, but there are much better examples of alternative rock out there
This was a massive hit. In fact, it established them as one of the biggest bands of the early '90s that had nothing to do with grunge at all. The critics hated the group then and aren't big on them now, but I think they're pretty good....

- Disgust and Everything After
I see that my previous review of this overhyped dronefest has vanished. Imagine that: someone disagrees with a negative review and, poof, it's gone. Nearly everything I despise about the corporate packaging and manufacturing of music...
