At Smarter.com, we aim to ensure we give you the most sound buying advice possible. With our 'Cumulative Product Rating' system, in order for a product to receive a rating score, it must have a minimum number of ratings to qualify.
This system is not intended to diminish the value of products with a low number of ratings and reviews, they're great, and hopefully very helpful, but if you want our advice, we want to make sure that the product you're thinking of buying has been rated and reviewed by enough shoppers like you to be a valuable indicator of product quality.

Good, but barely average for Sco
This is a good album, though a few of the tracks are fairly uninspired. Not sure why it's so highly praised. I think MMW freaks are more into it than Sco freaks. I'm a Sco freak, and to my ears, he's recorded much better albums. (Hand Jive, Groove...

One of My New Favorites!
I have always liked Medeski, Martin, and Wood but am quite sensitive to two downsides of them: (a) they often go way too "out there"; and (b) they often seem to jam for jams sake - no structure. As for Scofield - well - I've never really liked...

Taming the MMW beast. I recommend this cd.
Although I like much of what MMW do, I sometimes feel they "miss the point" by getting too hashed-out or weird for weird's sake. So it's good to see them "tamed" on this release. Maybe Scofield demands they behave...? I like much of this cd...

A Go Go
John Scofield, along with Medeski, Martin, & Wood, offers a great combination to produce excellent jazz. The upbeat tempos and funk-based bass lines are all wonderful, however, I found the CD at times to be monotonous in tone and often lacking in...

Old Meets New
Legend John Scofeild playing with Medeski, Martin and Wood? Whats not too like? I guess the argument about it being a bit repetitive from track-to-track and leaning too [...] the sharp nine is valid. But so what? If you're in the mood for some...

Can't take it out of my player!
Scofield sounds totally at home in so many musical settings, whether its the (relatively) straightahead live jazz on 2003's "EnRoute" with bassist Steve Swallow and drummer Bill Stewart, or this rollicking funky (and fun) ride from 1998. Here,...

Not a good as I hoped it'd be
Sometimes combining two big jazz players (or a player and a group) can result in something great. Think Thelonious Monk & John Coltrane. Ornette Coleman & Pat Metheny. This disc is an example, though, of 1 + 1 = 1 1/2. While John Scofield is...

Sharp Nine Festival
An enjoyable but somewhat repetitious foray into jazz-funk land. If you're familiar with the sharp-nine chord, that will tell you everything you need to know about this recording and its feel. For me, it became refreshing on the rare cuts where a...

COME ON AND TAKE A SCO- RIDE!
The Sco-man and the ever trippy MMW boys melt the outer layer off your cerebral cortex with this masterpiece album. If you cant groove to this youre either dead or very near death. This album is funkier than underneath your watch-band and I...

Warning..Do not Listen to this album alone!!!
Too much funk for one man to handle...only listen to this album with friends, and only if you want to shake it like an English nanny with an infant! This album is what it is all about..more soul than an R n' B convention, more funk than a smelly...
